Music As Your Muse | Rachel Nobles

If you’re anything like me, these past couple of weeks have been exhausting in many ways. My desire and motivation to do schoolwork has been completely zapped. As a person in a creative major, my energy and creativity levels are critical to completing projects.

If you feel anxious over school turn on some tunes! Studies show that music lowers anxiety and improves your mood. By turning on music you’re allowing for a free creative headspace. You are able to relax the brain's focus by distracting the more analytical right side, while letting the left run wild. This “mind-wandering” allows for a loose creative flow that can become indirectly inspired.

Tackling the low energy can be as simple as turning on upbeat songs, that can increase your adrenaline levels, making you feel more alert. Think about the last time you listened to an upbeat song, your toes started tapping or maybe just a finger, who knows maybe you even had the urge to get up and dance. No matter what you felt, an upbeat tempo naturally prompts your body to get moving. In addition, music triggers the release of dopamine, which is the happy hormone.

So, what genre produces the most creativity and energy? Turns out the benefits are not limited to a particular genre, but research does show that each may have a different impact.

You might be in the same boat as me and need some good studio songs, or maybe just want to dabble in art and see the effect of music. Good news!! You can find a playlist with brain boosting beats down below, that has been compiled by MMP for when energy is lacking.
